Candida Albicans is a type of yeast, normally found in the human gut and responsible for breaking down complex sugars. When the balance of Candida and other gut organisms is disturbed, Candida growth can begin to dominate the gut, causing many problems. Contributory factors include antibiotics, oral contraceptives, steroids, more than one pregnancy, smoking and sugar consumption. Candida is frequently implicated in cases of IBS.
